Retro themed T-Shirt with Mother Maybelle Carter of The Carter Family; the first family of Bluegrass and County Music. She was the matriarch of the Carter Family with her sister-in-law Sara Carter and brother-in-law A.P. Carter playing in the band also. She played both the auto-harp and the guitar and sang as well. Her guitar playing method is recognized as the first popular alternating bass fingerpicking method that was later hailed by so many other famous musicians such as Merle Travis and Les Paul. This t-shirt design is an image of her treasured and iconic 1928 Gibson L5 guitar for which she was known to play all of her professional life.
This Tee was originally a woodcut - a relief printing artistic technique in which an image is carved into the surface of a block of wood, with the printing parts remaining level with the surface while the non-printing parts are removed, typically with gouges. The areas to show the background are cut away with a knife or chisel, leaving the characters or image to show in the ink at the original surface level. The woodcut or linocut (using modern linoleum instead of wood) surface is then covered with ink by rolling over the surface with an ink-covered roller (brayer), leaving ink upon the flat surface but not in the non-printing areas. It is considered a craftwork done only by dedicated artists in this day and age. Each of our woodcut designed tshirts are also available as prints on quality paper. Please Inquire.
